Happiness Is Here-And-Now

Mindful Photography

  • Mindfulness is not just paying attention; it's playing with our attention.

  • Wherever you go, try to imagine you’re snapping photos of, drawing, or painting your observations (e.g. scenery, people, and buildings) with a beginner's mind.

  • Beginner's mind means seeing things through fresh lenses, child-like curiosity, and thinking of it as a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • Have fun - focus on the pleasant, interesting, and meaningful. You may also take real photos with your phone camera (instead of imagining) and WhatsApp the photos to friends to share your discoveries.

  • A recent scientific study in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology (Diehl, Zauberman, & Barasch, 2016) shows that enjoyment of positive experiences is enhanced by taking pictures as it increases engagement.

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes
